Mix Dal Tadka

Easy and quick to prepare mix dal tadka.

I have used a ready made packet of mix dal available at the shop,You can use any dal or mix two, three dal that have at home to make a healthy mix dal and the most important is the tadka which perks up the flavour of the dal.

Ingredients:

1 cup mix dal

4 dry red chillies

1''ginger finely chopped

4 cloves of garlic

1 tsp asafoetida

1 tsp mustard seeds

1 tbsp finely chopped green chillies

1 tbsp oil

1 tbsp ghee

1 tsp cumin seeds

1/2 tsp red chilly powder

1/2 tsp kasuri methi(dry fenugreek leaves)

1tsp salt

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1 tbsp of chopped coriander leaves


*In a bowl take 1 cup of mix dal add some water and wash it and drain the water.

*Take a pressure cooker add the washed dal to it add 2 cups of water in the pressure cooker add salt and turmeric powder.

*On a medium flame heat up the pressure cooker and cook the dal until 2 whistles.



*Heat up a pot on a medium flame add 1 tbsp oil when the oil is hot add mustard seeds to it let it splatter to that add the asafoetida than add chopped garlic, add the chopped ginger, finely chopped green chillies and then the dry red chillies, fry it for a while till you get nice aroma of the spices.

*Add the pressure cooked dal to the fried spices and give it a mix let it boil for 5mins in the spices.


*Add some water if you find the gravy a bit thick, I have maintained a medium consistency by adding little more water, now check for salt, then add fresh coriander leaves and give it good stir Cover it cook for 2 mins.

*Here comes the last step for the dal is the tadka,Now lets make tadka for the dal to pour on top and to give it more flavour

*Heat up a frying pan on a medium heat add 1 tbsp ghee when the ghee is hot add cumin seeds let it splatter, add red chilly powder, kasuri methi fry it for 20 seconds

*Remove the lid and Pour the hot tadka on the top of the boiling dal, give it a stir let it combine in the spices for 2 mins and its ready to serve.


*Finally serve the mix dal tadka with steamed rice or roti.
