Matar ka Nimona/Green peas curry

Matar ka nimona is a old lost traditional dish of North India widely consumed in Uttar Pradesh, it is made of mashed peas cooked in spicy curry with a pinch of asafoetida, It is a simple dish where no onions and tomatoes are added.




Ingredients:

👉2 cup peas

👉2 large potatoes

👉2 bay leaves

👉4 to 5 black peppercorns

👉1 tsp cumin seeds

👉1/2 tsp red chilly powder

👉1/4 tsp turmeric powder

👉1 tsp coriander powder

👉1/2 tsp cumin powder

👉1 tsp garam masala

👉1/2 tsp asofeida

👉2 red chillies

👉2 green chillies

👉1/2 tsp salt

👉1 tbsp ghee

👉1 tbsp oil


Grind to paste:

👉Handful of fresh coriander leaves

👉4 to 5 garlic cloves

👉1'' ginger

]👉2 green chillies


Method:

👉Wash,peel and diced the potatoes,heat up a frying pan add in 1tbsp oil and fry the diced potatoes,sprinkle some salt on it and fry until the potatoes are Half done and light golden in colour.remove it in a plate and set aside.keep the oil in the pan as we need to fry the peas in it.


👉Take a blender and coarsely grind 1cup of peas with little water.when done remove it in a bowl and set it aside. In the same frying pan of fried potatoes,fry the ground peas for a while until the water of the peas dries up.


👉Take a medium pot on a medium heat add in ghee when hot add in black pepper corns, bay leaves,asofeida and cumin seeds let it splatter.


👉Add in the ground paste fry it till the raw smell of the paste vanishes away, Now add in the ground peas sauté for 30 seconds,at this stage add in the cumin powder,turmeric powder,Garam masala,coriander powder and the red chillies fry it well.


👉Add in a cup of water and salt now add the fried potatoes and the remaining 1 cup peas mix it altogether,cover the lid and cook it for 5 mins ,before turning the flame off add in green chillies and the tasty dish is ready to eat with chapati/rice/ poori/naan.
